About The Author

Bruce K Beck grew up in Burlington, North Carolina, where he learned to love Southern cooking and yearn for the day when he could live in New York City.  Just sending off for some product premium, placing the carefully saved cereal box tops into the envelope and addressing it to a P.O. Box in New York, New York, made him tremble with excitement.  Nevertheless, he studied theater at Wake Forest University (in Winston Salem, NC) and at Northwestern University (in Evanston, IL).  But he made the coveted move to New York in 1975.

Once there, he soon stopped going to auditions and started baking cookies.  Since 1979 he has owned and operated his own small catering business, written two cookbooks, and taught thousands of cooking classes at The New School in Manhattan (for twenty-seven years) and other area schools.  In addition to many other interests he specialized in chocolate since the mid-1980s, creating in 2006 a line of chocolate truffles and nut barks called Bruce’s Best. As a consultant, he developed a variety of products through the years, including bakery products for a New York catering company that earned raves from The New York Times, including “first rate,” and “fabulous.”  Recently he owned and operated two Mexican restaurants, the casual Taco Sueño followed by Yucatán.  Having survived these experiences, he is now following a more contemplative path, including blogging, writing, and publishing.

Beck is currently writing novels, including his Love TrilogyYOU’RE SURE TO FALL IN LOVE, LOVE AND THE EPIDEMIC, and AND LOVE ENDURES—  The next offerings from Audacity Books, from 2019, include the Tolerance Trilogy and the Obsession Trilogy.  All volumes are widely available in ebook, paperback, and hardcover.  The latest publications are the Holiday Novella Series, which is now available as a box set in ebook and paperback.

Before turning to fiction Bruce wrote PRODUCE: A Fruit and Vegetable Lovers’ Guide (Friendly Press, 1984), which was called “gorgeous” by The New York Times, “a dazzler” by Bon Appetit, and “the most spectacular food book of the year” by The Boston Globe.  Next came THE OFFICIAL FULTON FISH MARKET COOKBOOK, (E.P. Dutton, 1989), which was called “invaluable” by Jacques Pépin, “an absolute must” by A. J. McClane, and “a treasure” by Irene Sax of Newsday.  He also wrote for two Eating Well cookbooks, and for Food & Wine, Eating Well, Cooking Light, Cosmopolitan, EveryDay with Rachael Ray, and Seafood Business.

Bruce K Beck’s media appearances include the fourteen cooking segments for The Weight Watchers Magazine Show with Lynn Redgrave for Lifetime, and Regis Philbin’s Morning Show.  He was a regular on In Food Today with Donna Hanover and David Rosengarten in the early days of Television Food Network.  And he guested with some of New York’s legendary radio hosts, including Joan Hamburg, June LaBelle, and Patricia McCann.

Bruce is also a photographer and webmaster, showcasing his work at  prideview.com and brucebeck.com In his spare time, he collects culinaria, photographs, American Indian jewelry and textiles, and African art.
