Dear Reader,

I hope you’ll tell me when you find typos.  They have the inevitability of Greek tragedy.  But as far as I know, the text is right, and the covers—ebook, paperback, and hardcover—are stunning.  Thank you, Tim Barber (dissectdesigns.com).  LOVE AND THE EPIDEMIC is live!

The process of getting a novel published is fraught with distractions, fears, doubts, pitfalls, and sweat.  Never mind the tears—they’re the least painful adjuncts.  They tell us that the heart is engaged.  And without that, we have nothing.

I was reminded of the byzantine ways of the traditional publishing world by a visit to an awards ceremony last week.  Though it celebrated queer voices, it was mostly about established presses.  And as the ceremony proceeded, I began to wonder if it were not really more about the gatekeepers than the voices.

Agents, editors, and publishers will always be essential parts of it as we move farther into this new millennium of information and expression.  But I can’t help believing that the voice is always more precious than the megaphone.  So, no matter how big Audacity Books grows—and I hope it will burst its seams on a regular basis—I pledge to remain indie forever!

Don’t forget the free download of YOU’RE SURE TO FALL IN LOVE, through May 15, at
