Dear Reader,
I thought I’d give a publishing update, since I seem to be caught up in business more than in writing this week. You’re Sure to Fall in Love, and The Cookbook are set for release on December 1, through Amazon, of course, and also in paperback for worldwide distribution through Ingram. In addition to Amazon’s preorders, ebooks are also being distributed by Draft2Digital to Nook (Barnes & Noble), Kobo, and other international platforms.
The process has been daunting at times, but always exciting. And the most exciting moment since I first held a copy of my first novel in my hands, is receiving proofs for the dust jacket for the hardcover edition, which Ingram will also have available by December 1. I think Tim Barber of dissectdesigns.com has created an elegant cover, starting with the paperback design and filling it out to include the inside flaps and all that. The dust jacket ends that fold in are called wings, by the way, for the geekier among us.
I expect to feel a little rush of pride when I first hold a hardback copy of my first novel in my hands, also. And speaking of pride, another business project this week is finalizing the submissions to three organizations that offer literary prizes for LGBTQ fiction (and non-fiction, too). Lambda Literary bestows its annual “Lammy” awards; and I am also submitting for consideration by the committee for the Stonewall Book Awards; and The Publishing Triangle chooses recipients for its annual Triangle Literary Awards, which include the Edmund White Award for Debut Fiction.
Winning any of those awards would be dreamy, of course. But like everything else in life, it’s all about the doing, the process. I always wanted to be a working professional, first and foremost. It’s the journey, not the destination. But a lovely destination is nice, too!
Bruce
